Two Years In, and a New Round
For more than two years, we have been building something real. Not a trend, not a wellness product, but a practice. Contrast therapy that focuses on activating awareness and teaching the mind to stay non-reactive.
The premise is simple. The body organizes the mind. The mind organizes the body. That connection organizes our lives. Heat and cold are not the point. They are the conditions we use to meet ourselves clearly.
What I am most proud of is the community. People who actually value the silent inner work. People who want a space to be and to practice without needing to achieve any outcome. That is rare, and you built it as much as we did.
What's new: Saunagus
Thanks to Sean and Mark from Euphoria Heat Club, I was formally introduced to the Danish sauna practice of Saunagus. We have touched on elements of this before. What is different now is that we are formalizing it, giving it structure and bringing more intention to how it runs.
Saunagus brings two new mediums into the room: music, and the effect of plants through essential oils. In a Saunagus round, the guided cold plunge becomes optional. As you sweat, the body takes in the essence of the flowers and plants directly, carried in through the skin and the breath. You are not just sitting in heat. You are absorbing the consciousness of the plants, flowers and herbs.
This changes the texture of a session without changing its core intent – mindfulness of the elements.
Silence, and the option of communion
Until now, our community has practiced in silence. That stays at the center of what we do.
What we are exploring is opening the cold plunge rounds for those who want them to be communion. A chance to be with each other, not just beside each other. So the space holds both: room for personal mindful practice, and an open social area for genuine human connection.
The goal is not to push everyone toward one or the other. It is ease and acceptance of each person's own needs. A spectrum that supports the person who needs silence and the person who needs connection, in the same room, on the same night.
What to expect
In the past we have run sessions in complete silence, and there is real value in hearing your own thoughts with nothing else in the room. Music is another avenue worth exploring in the navigation of our inner landscape. Each round has sound curated for it, and that curation is not a playlist thrown together. It has gone through rigor, chosen and sequenced to work with the flow of the experience rather than sit on top of it.
Plants and sound work as complementary mediums. Together they create a kind of experience that is hard to describe and easy to feel. You come, and you let go of deciding. You stop thinking about what to do next. That release is the whole thing.
Also, if you want coaching through the cold plunge, that is there too. None of it is required but highly recommended.
Practice with us
Public sessions run every Tuesday, our usual time. Not every class is the same. We still offer fully silent classes. Some will carry the Saunagus element, others might be built around sound healing. Look out for the details in each class listing so you can pick the format that fits what you need that day.
Private, dialed-in practice is offered at the Contrast Sanctuary.
Come sweat, listen, breathe in something living, and stay non-reactive while you do it. We would love to have you back in the room.
