Heart Sanctuary

How CONTRAST trains your cardiovascular system without moving a muscle

Most people think of cardio as something you earn through sweat and sore legs. A run, a ride, a class that leaves you breathless. But what if your heart could get a genuine training stimulus while you sit perfectly still?

That's exactly what happens during contrast therapy.

During a recent session, we tracked an average of 122 bpm across three rounds of hot and cold. That's Zone 2, the aerobic band exercise scientists widely consider the most powerful range for cardiovascular fitness, mitochondrial density, and metabolic efficiency. Peaks hit 183 bpm. No miles. No muscle fatigue. No joint impact.

When you enter a sauna, your body responds identically to vigorous exercise: blood vessels dilate, cardiac output rises, heart rate climbs. The cold plunge reverses it. Blood vessels constrict, the vagal brake fires, heart rate drops before climbing again in the next round. Three rounds. Three peaks. Cardiovascular interval training driven entirely by temperature.

But the physical work is only half the story.

What contrast therapy actually trains is something most people never practice: being present while under stress. Heart rate elevated. Heat bearing down. Cold hitting like a wall. Every instinct pulls toward escape, relief, distraction. The same impulses behind the habits and behaviors that bind so many of us.

The practice is simply this: stay. Breathe. Be here.

Done consistently, that builds a spaciousness and equanimity that shows up everywhere else in your life. Not a feeling you get afterward. A capacity you develop within.

This is why contrast therapy is different from anything else you can do for an hour. The body working hard while the mind learns to be still inside the storm.

A NEW HOME FOR THE PRACTICE

We're building a more permanent home for this work. A sanctuary in a hidden garden in the heart of Corona Heights, with sweeping city views and every detail handled so you can fully drop in.

FYI - Next Tuesday's session (March 31st) will not be held at Alchemy Springs. We're hosting independently, and we'd love for you to be part of it.

Sessions are capped at 4! If this resonates, that's the sign to book.
